LG TAG – Mobile phone
2011

Designer: Eric Stoddard

Speed Design Studio developed a concept of a new mobile phone specially for LG. LG Tag is an accessory that clips to the ear and makes your hands free. Simple touch screen makes it easy to move around. LG Tag has compact size, but is able to solve complex tasks. For example, entering data through a computer connected via cable or wirelessly. There is also a possibility to navigate with a voice control. The user has access to social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.

LG wants to be more original and therefore has big hopes for this little accessory, that repeats LG logo in shape and color. There are no buttons – just a round touch screen and a microphone with speaker on rear panel. We impatiently look forward to hear the reviews of the users.

PowerFlex 3D - first 3D cam by Rollei
2011

German manufacturer of cameras, photographic and optical equipment Rollei released 3D camera - PowerFlex 3D to the market in 2011.

It is the first 3D camera by Rollei, but not their first camera with two lenses. The company began manufacturing stereo photo cameras in 1921. The idea is the same, only presentation is different. The screen of the 3D camera performs one 3D image, combined of 2 pictures made by each lens and about hundred years ago a pare of stereo pictures were printed separately and then viewed through special lenses, producing stereo effect.

PowerFlex camera is equipped with two lenses and two CMOS, creating 3D images from two pictures. Rollei’s camera appeared after the first Fuji’s 3D camera - Fuji film FinePix REAL 3D W3. It’s strange that the specifications are so poor comparing with Japanese competitor. It seems that Rollei was not simply aware of the FujiFilm camera, produced one year earlier. Matrix resolution in half less – 5 megapixels and screen size is also smaller than competitor’s - 2,8 inches. The set of functions is absolutely identical: 3D and 2D modes, 3D video recording; 3D-live screen (without stereo glasses).

Dimensions: 110 x 70 x 20,5 mm

Weight: 127 gr

Price: 300 euros

P.S.: In 10 years, Rollei will celebrate its centenary and we congratulate them.

Nokia E97 Envelope
2011

Designer: Fabien Nauroy

Shape of this mobile was inspired by an envelope. Instead of a letter there is a screen inside, which can be pulled out and function as a separate device.
This phone has a keyboard  with an AZERTY layout and a small LCD display above.  The leather case contains a second pocket  for holding an additional screen. The most interesting part of this phone is the pull-out LED display that can be used for storing, editing and sharing files and pictures. This magic screen allows you to surf webpages and share photos  with others. It can be used as a photo frame and a book. Screen uses special E-ink technology which  imitates a real ink on a paper. It creates unique design and spends much less energy. Nokia E97 supports two SIM cards.

Toshiba Qosmio - first glassless 3D laptop
2011

Toshiba has become the market leader in 3D-live - glassless 3D technologies. In 2010 the first 3D-live Toshiba Regza TV has been released in the Japanese market. In 2011 Toshiba released the first 3D-live laptop - Qosmio. While you watch 3D content, built-in webcam tracks your eyes whenever you shift your position. The result - better 3D representation no matter from what angle you look at the screen. But, as in case of all innovations, we should not rush to buy it. Every first model presenting the new technology requires time to be improved.  Qosmio laptop needs a more powerful battery and improved tracking cam system - as sometimes when you change your position, the screen becomes blurry for few seconds. We recommend to wait for the second improved model.

Anyway we congratulate Toshiba for being the first company who presented the first glassless laptop and TV and we wait impatiently for next Toshiba surprises.

TubeDrobe - ecological wardrobe
2011

  Designer: Nikita Maximov

In the near future trends in furniture design will be increasingly focused on experiments with new materials and forms. This will increase the value of eco design as a way of expressing the positions of designers who care about the environment.
«TubeDrobe» designed by Nikita Maximov is one of such ecological experiments. TubeDrobe is a cabinet made of cardboard tubes waiting to be recycled. It has a positive association with the natural design and can be attributed to the successful experiments, based on multiplication, repetition of the basic element and producing a synergistic effect in the new quality.
Tube as a basic element can implement both conventional and unconventional forms of the TubeDrobe cabinet. It can be used to store small items at home or as a showcase in a design store.

NmG2 - electric three wheeler car for two passengers
2011

Myers Motors has unveiled the second model of an electric three wheeler car – NmG 2. The first NmG was designed for one person and NmG Duo takes two.  The two passengers electric  vehicle has more storage space, air conditioning and modern design – it doesn’t look like if it has escaped from the circus anymore. But there are customers who really love the first model because of that neo retro design.

The NmG tops out at 75 mph and can travel 60 miles on a charge of its lithium-ion battery. There is an optional battery pack, that can extend the range to 100 miles.

The law doesn’t catch up with technology and this vehicle can’t be classified as neither a car nor a motorcycle – it requires a new special class of vehicle.

Review: Gocycle – folding electric bike
2011

Gocycle is a folding hybrid electric bicycle, which can be driven by electric motor or by pedaling.

The battery is hidden in the main frame tube, and electric motor - in the front wheel. For pedal-free ride, push the red button on the left handlebar. The motor will work only when the bike is moving, so you have to start pedaling first. Once you are moving you can press the red button and the motor will take over. The three-speed gears operated with a twist grip are on the right bar. The disc brakes front and rear are also enclosed.

Gocycle has very promising key features. The nickel metal hydride battery, which needs three hours to charge fully, provides enough power to travel at least 15 miles (24 km) without pedalling – 22 miles (35 km) if used less frequently. The motor’s speed is limited to 24kph (15mph) but tests say it can go even a bit faster.

The Gocycle weighs 35.6lbs (16.2kg), including mudguards and EmpowerPack (motor and battery).

Another reason, making this model more attractive among other electric bikes is that the Gocycle folds and fits into a usual car boot. Gocycle becomes compact enough to be stored in a hard case or soft bag.

Currently, the Gocycle is offered in “So White” or limited edition “Rich Black” colors.

Price of a standard version £1,495

User-friendly decoration
2011

Interior design is all about being innovative, exclusive, but most of all - functional and user friendly. Even when it comes to the warmth giving fire. However decorative and fashionable, fire has to be clean and convenient for the user. Following the latest trends in architecture and design, and being the world leader on the biofireplace market, Planika uses the most advanced technology to create highest quality, user friendly products. All of our bio fireplaces are easier, safer and cleaner to use than any other gas or wood fireplace. But the real revolution was started by the latest and most exclusive product-Fire Line Automatic, first presented during Saloni Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. It is the first and only remote controlled long fire in the world, that does not require any hard connection and installation. It is addressed particularly to architects and interior designers, created so that it can actually fit into any space chosen by the client: installed into wall, positioned on the ground or suspended in any furnishing item. The line of fire for a single module is 1490mm. However, it’s possible to join several elements and operate them with a single remote control or with the Smart Home system. So now the user can enjoy the view of the dancing flames as soon as he enters the room, without even bothering about preparing wood or cleaning the ashtray. It can be extended endlessly-the minimum size of an interior is only 34m2 for a single module and the recommended Fanola fuel is completely non-toxic and odourless. But decorative aspects are not the only benefit! Fire Line Automatic is extremely safe, because the only combustion products are water vapour and CO2. It doesn’t demand any chimney, installation or ashtray. Not even a special written permission for an indoor use! Also, it is equipped with several security sensors, which react to any inaccuracy: seismic activity, higher CO2 concentration or fuel overflow and then turn off the device in an instant. It is so easy to operate that the neither does the user have to be qualified to refill the fuel, nor does he have to be strong enough to carry heavy pieces of wood. So he doesn’t have to worry about anything at all! Architects interested in using the device are welcome to send draft project to Planika’s experts, and the team will respond instantly with a suggestion of optimal solution. This makes FLA the most attractive and universal on the bio fireplace market, suitable for all kinds of interiors, commercial and private, traditional and modern. Obviously perfect for those simplicity lovers who do not wish to be bothered by complicated and time-consuming maintenance of their fireplace.
